Proposal: Fast and Female

Who: Fast and Female USA

Submitted By: Tlisa Northcutt

Short Description:

Fast and Female is a not-for-profit society started in Canada in 2005 by Chandra Crawford, an Olympic gold medalist in cross country skiing at the 2006 Games. The organization’s goal is to support, motivate, inspire and empower girls ages 9 to19 to stick to sports and the healthy lifestyle. In 2009, Kikkan Randall helped to expand Fast and Female to the US.

This grant would provide event support for the next Fast and Female Champ Chat event in Anchorage.

The Big Why

By the age of 14, girls will drop out of sports at a rate of up to six times that of boys.

Fast and Female’s vision is to deliver inspiring, innovative, and high impact programming for the positive personal and athletic development of young female athletes involved in an array of sports. Fast and Female hopes that one day, all girls will have positive and empowering experiences in sports as a foundation for success in life.

During the development stages of young women, it is often common for girls who are active and participating in sport to lose interest for a wide variety of reasons. Certain factors such as poor support, high cost, school demands, lack of improvement in sport, changes within the body and social pressures all contribute to the wavering commitment of girls remaining in sport.

Although we are unable to change many of the factors that pose challenges to female athletes, we can empower young women and inform parents to help create a path to a confident, happy, healthy and successful future through sport.

Fast and Female creates “Empowerment through sport” for girls by hosting fun-filled, non-competitive programming led by female Olympians and elite athletes, as well as by delivering educational content to parents and coaches. Kikkan Randall serves as the USA Ambassador and President of Fast and Female USA.

This grant would support the annual Champ Chat event to be held in Anchorage in 2016. This is a high energy, girl power event and would provide great exposure for the Alaska Women’s Giving Circle while supporting the efforts of Fast and Female USA.

I am requesting $2,500 for this event to be used at the discretion of the event planning committee for expenditures such as, but not limited to, scholarships, event expenses, advertising, etc.
